Fires in Ithaca Updates

Information from Lt. Tom Basher from the Ithaca Fire Department
Observations from WICB’s Riley Ludwig and Tom Garris

The Chapter House

– Fire started at The Chapter House on 400 block of Stewart Avenue on East Hill around 4 a.m.
– The Ithaca Fire Department arrived on the scene just before 5 a.m.
– The Chapter House was built in 1950.
– Not the first fire on this premises, well known pictures inside of the restaurant/bar document previous incidents.
– Parts of the roof were being removed from the scene around 9:15 a.m.
– Crews will be out there for the rest of the day, according to Basher. Cause of the fire still being determined.

Fire on South Aurora (late morning)

– The Ithaca Fire Department arrived at the scene of a structure fire on South Aurora Street near Hillview place between 9 – 10 a.m.
– Authorities on the scene say the fire is “contained.” (10:45 a.m.)
– Fire was extinguished and crews were beginning to leave the scene around 11 a.m.
– All occupants were out of the house and the cause of the fire has not been released.

Traffic and Closures (information from IFD)

– Traffic on Stewart Ave. is closed from the intersection of Stewart/Buffalo to Stewart/Cornell’s Campus.
– Traffic on Williams Street is closed.
– Traffic on Osmond Place is closed.
– Traffic on South Avenue, West Avenue, and Edgemoor Lane are accessible at the Discretion of Fire and Police.
