The Ithaca College Index of Economic Activity for Tompkins County has seen a 0.64 percent dip for the month of October.
Experts point out that an increase in the county’s unemployment numbers contributed to this fall. The county lost 1,400 jobs in October, and this figure takes the total unemployment to over 64,000.
The report also predicts that there is a good chance the county will end up fewer jobs than it had in 2011. These numbers came as the national unemployment rate fell to a four year low at 7.7 percent when November saw the addition of over 146,000 jobs.
Te official jobs survey data for individual states is expected to be released by Dec. 21. Analysts wait impatiently wait for these numbers to gauge the true financial impact of Hurricane Sandy.
